Leo,
I know about the liquor ad/Watchtower cover, but what is a Der Siegel, and where does it appear in the Live Forever book?

ok i know there has been a lot of discussion over the years on the length of the creative days, and whether the society still refers to these days as being 7,000 years long.
i ran across an article just a few years ago that mentioned the length of the creative day, and i made a mental note of it.
unfortunately i no longer have access to a wt library cd, so i had to look through my collection of mags to find it.
Wow you folks are fast!!! thanks!

But the gist of it: the question was "What is the "rest" referred to at Hebrews 4:9-11, and how does one "enter into that rest"?
According to the article, Paul's reference to God's rest was based on Genesis 2:2, "By the seventh day God came to the completion of his work that he had made, and he proceeded to rest on the seventh day from all his work that he had made."
Quote:
This shows that when Paul wrote those words, "the seventh day" of God's rest, which had started some 4,000 years earlier, was still in progress. It will not end until God's purpose regarding mankind and the earth is completely fulfilled at the end of the Thousand Year Reign of Jesus Christ, who is the "Lord of the sabbath."
So although it does not specifically state that a creative day = 7000 years, its very much implied. I believe this is likely the closest they have come to stating this concept in recent years. Their normal procedure has been to be very vague, that the creative days lasted for "millenia".
Anyway, that's my contribution to the topic, discuss...

i have been out for years now but i still tremble alittle when i run into an elder at the store or run into an elder on the street and my post question certainly applies to me as well but why do i still have fear of jw's elders?
i have been da'd for so many years but that fear still comes up.
and reading alot of the post here i still see ex-jw's and jw's faders living a pretended jw life or pretending to be happy when they are miserable in the wt.
The Elders have great power to destroy lives and families, especially if they decide an individual is guilty, unrepentant, etc.
I agree with Daystar, the only power they have is the power we give them. Once you realize the Emporer has no clothes, the power is gone.
They are pathetic little men who will run and hide the first time their authority is openly challenged.

( rancid leftovers delivered to your door)
would you be grateful if a stranger knocked on your door offering a basket of leftovers that had gone bad in 1975?
Very nice article, but a couple inaccuracies jumped out at me...
But, the "volunteer" is compelled to do so upon penalty of excommunication (called "disfellowshipping" if they do not comply.
No one has ever been threatened with DFing for being "inactive" in field service.
3.No charitable volunteer work is permitted at a local levelPermitted is the wrong word here. Volunteer work unrelated to furthering the goals of the Org has always been discouraged, but has never been forbidden. In fact I remember a couple Awake! articles from the 90's that mentioned individuals doing outside volunteer and put it in a slightly positive light... of course, "balance" is always recommended. Higher education, while frowned upon, is also not forbidden. I am not trying to nit-pick here or defend the Borg, I just think we do a disservice as ex-JWs when we make statements that are clearly not true. A newcomer JW here could read these types of statements and then decide that all the stories about "apostate lies" are correct after all. No Apologies4.No higher education or self-betterment is permitted or encouraged

i've posted on freeminds for over a year now but i rarely post on the medical treatment forum.
i believe i've had depression or some other milder form of depression for many months but i haven't gotten antidepressants for a couple of reasons 1.pride- i feel that taken antidepressants is admittion that i'm weak, 2. fear- i don't have health insurance and i'm afraid of the financial reprocussions of prescriptions and mental healthcare visits.
3. i'm also afraid that by taking the medication it will have no affect (wasted money) or that i will be worse off after taking them than if i had done nothing.. give me some of your thoughts.
boy,
I don't know your story, but I know many JWs and exJWs suffer from depression, for various reasons. I myself have been on anti-depressants for some time. They are not a placebo, but they are not also a cure-all. I believe depression can have medical causes but a lot of it has to deal with what's going on in your life.
So lets look at your 3 reasons for avoiding them:
1. sign of weakness - this is totally rediculous. Its like telling somebody with a broken leg to walk it off. If you have depression, you need to treat it, either through counseling and/or medications.
2. cost. Okay this is a valid concern. Any kind of health care is costly. Is there any way you can get health insurance? Or find some way to cover the cost?
3. meds won't work or will make you worse. Well both of these are possible, but the good news is there lots of options available. I have heard of some people having difficulties from one med after another, sometimes having to try several until they found one that worked and that did not have side-effects that were as bad or worse than the depression.
Depression is real, it is dangerous, and it makes life suck when life should be enjoyed. And it can be frustrating fighting it, but it can be fought and it can be overcome.

a special thank you to both cal and vitty for their pm's which gave me a different perspective to look from.. so the p.o.
meets with us in one of the back rooms and my wife starts to speak.
Ok what happened to her "complaints" about the oral sex??? Somehow that didn't get brought up?
It looks like you are in a tough spot IF you want to save your marriage. Like others have pointed out, you will need to go deep undercover, and if you really want your wife to see the light, you will need to work at it very very carefully, maybe over more than a year or two, to bring her around.
But the way she is treating you, invading your privacy, snitching on you to the elders, blatant use of sex to try to control you... you might want to think about Plan B...
I left my marriage because of similar issues, but in our case there weren't kids involved...
I wish you lots of luck, whatever you do....
